The most frequent and important cause of chronic gastroenteritis in children is rotavirus infection. Often times rotavirus infections spread to infants as well. This is also known as infectious diarrhoea and it affects children frequently. Finding rotavirus in the faeces is required for the rotavirus antigen test. There are many different reactions that the viral infection causes ranging from moderate to severe. Mild clinical infection acute to severe diarrhoea and even dehydration are all results of it. One of the main factors contributing to nosocomial infections is rotavirus. In addition to children elders who are ill and have their immune systems compromised are also susceptible to this virus.
