An antibody test for Desmoglein III (DSG III) is used to detect and classify Pemphigus. Desmoglein, a protein that functions as a kind of glue that binds the epidermal cells or skin cells together, is the target of antibodies that are produced in the autoimmune disease pemphigus. Desmoglein is destroyed by antibodies that are directed towards oneself. The doctor orders this test to determine what is causing sores and blisters on the skins surface. In evaluating painful blisters that begin close to the lips, it is also beneficial. It is impossible to spread pemphigus from one person to another as it is not contagious. However, they may be more susceptible to the illness due to their genetic makeup. You are more likely to develop this problem if your parents or other family members did or do.
