A blood sample is subjected to a CD3 (cluster of differentiation 3) test to determine the concentration of CD3 in the blood. During and after T cell lymphoma treatment, the test is carried out to confirm the presence of T cell lymphoma (or leukaemia). The CD3 cell count is crucial for assessing immune function along with other immunological measures. Typically, people with HIV diagnoses are advised to get the CD3 test. You must tell the lab about any medication you take prior to the test. The doctor can then determine if any medicine might have an impact on the outcome of the test. Generally speaking, a normal CD3 count (i.e., negative) denotes that HIV has not yet had an impact on the persons immune system.
