By using the Typhi dot test, IgG antibody against Salmonella typhi is determined. These antibodies are produced in response to the outer membrane protein of Salmonella typhi (OMP). This test normally provides results two to three days after infection. IgG antibodies show that the infection was recent. Because it is not a quantitative test, this test only determines whether Salmonella typhi is present or not. A Widal test is suggested when titers (a tiny percentage) of a specific antibody are needed.
