Anti-thyroperoxidase antibodies are detected in your blood by the thyroid peroxidase (TPO)antibody test. When thyroid cells are harmed, the body creates these antibodies. These antibodies may indicate the presence of autoimmune conditions that cause the thyroid to produce either too little or too much thyroid hormone. Even if you have antithyroid antibodies in your blood, you might not necessarily have thyroid illness. You might, however, be more likely to develop thyroid problems in the future. If your test results are positive, it signifies that antibodies are present in your blood, which may mean that your thyroid gland is being affected by an autoimmune disorder.
