A test called the Intrinsic Factor IgG Antibody (IF antibodies) looks for antibodies made against the intrinsic factor made by parietal cells in the stomach. For the body to absorb vitamin B12, an intrinsic factor is necessary. The presence of IF antibodies is a sign of an autoimmune condition that causes pernicious anaemia. If a doctor suspects a vitamin B12/folate deficiency and notices symptoms like paleness, weariness, numbness or tingling in the extremities and larger-than-normal RBCs in a CBC count test, he may advise doing this test.
