This examination is carried out to check for gestational diabetes, a form of the disease that arises during pregnancy. Without regard to the timing of meals, the test measures the bodys response to 75 g of glucose (flavoured or plain, purchased from a nearby drugstore) after two hours. The Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Group of India endorses it (DIPSI). This test is often recommended during the second or third trimester of pregnancy; however, women with a family history of diabetes and/or obesity, as well as those who lead sedentary lifestyles, are urged to get this test done on a regular basis beginning in the first trimester. Any time of day is appropriate for this test.
