The beta-2 glycoprotein antibody is found in the blood by the beta 2 Glycoprotein 1 IgM serum test. These antibodies, which are often referred to as antiphospholipid antibodies, are understood to target the bodys own phospholipids (lipid proteins) and platelets. The primary purposes of this test are to determine the origin of thrombosis (unexplained blood clots), recurrent miscarriages, and antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). It is typically ordered in conjunction with other tests like lupus anticoagulant and cardiolipin antibody.
