About the Test

On a blood sample, a Western blot antibody test is performed. It is used to confirm or deny the results of an earlier HIV or Lyme disease test. The standard quick test for routine HIV screening is the HIV Antigen/Antibodies Test. One of the least expensive HIV tests available, it often yields speedy results in just 1-2 business days. The 4th generation HIV test, also known as the HIV Antigen/Antibodies test, searches for both antibodies to the HIV virus and the p24 Antigen, which is unique to HIV. Several weeks following exposure is common for the development of HIV antibodies. By 12 weeks after exposure, most persons will have antibodies that can be identified.
