A viral infection called chikungunya typically causes fever and joint pain. Polymerase Chain Reaction is used in this test to identify the presence of the Chikangunya virus within six days of an infection (PCR). PCR is an amplification technique that creates several copies of DNA in order to find the virus. The test has perfect sensitivity and specificity. Chikungunya viral RNA is amplified and detected using the Chikungunya PCR test.
