Scrub typhus is a disease that affects people and is spread by the biting of trombiculid mite larva or by the bacteria Orientia tsutsugamushi. The bite causes an eschar or scab to grow at the site. This test is used to detect scrub typhus. In locations with scrub vegetation, the extremely contagious disease is widespread, and the lack of timely medical attention can be fatal. For testing IgM antibodies, an immunofluorescence assay (IFA) is used.
