Troponin levels are essential in diagnosing heart attacks and cardio-vascular disorders. These proteins enter bloodstream only when there is damage to heart muscle. The higher the troponin level the higher is the damage to the heart. Troponin levels usually increase acutely within 3 to 12 hours after a heart attack and peak at about 24 hours after the heart attack. Troponin T (cTnT) is present in other muscles than the heart but in very limited amount. Some other conditions that might cause troponin levels to rise are Chronic Kidney disease, sepsis & pulmonary embolism.
