Systemic sclerosis is diagnosed by the presence of Scl-70 antibodies, also known as topoisomerase I, topo-I, or ATA (SSc). About 20% of SSc patients have Scl-70 antibodies found on their own and these antibodies are linked to the diffuse form of the disease, which has a bad prognosis and the potential to affect particular organs. Additionally, various percentages of people with systemic lupus erythematosus have been found to carry scl-70 antibodies (SLE).
