The DIC test is used to determine if you have disseminated intravascular coagulation, a disorder where tiny blood veins are blocked by blood clots that grow throughout the body. This panel tests for thrombocytopenia, an increased partial thromboplastin time and prothrombin time, higher levels of plasma D-dimers (or serum fibrin degradation products), and a declining plasma fibrinogen level are among the tests that are performed.
