The Absolute Basophil Count (ABC) test counts the basophils in the patient's blood. White blood cells known as basophils are essential in the fight against infections. This examination aids in the evaluation of allergic, hematologic, neoplastic, and parasitic infections. The differentiated white blood cell count test, which is performed in cases of an allergic reaction or chicken pox, also includes it as a component. The number of basophils is unaffected by viral or bacterial infections. If the basophils are abnormally low (basophilia) or excessively high (absolute basophil count, or ABC), this can be determined (basophilia). The standard range for an absolute basophil count is 0 to 300 microliters. Only 0.5–1% of the total population of white blood cells (WBCs) are basophils.
