IgM antibody against Salmonella typhi is measured by the Typhi dot test. These antibodies are generated in response to Salmonella typhi's outer membrane protein (OMP). Within two to three days of infection, this test typically yields findings. IgM antibodies are indicative of a recent infection. This test simply determines whether Salmonella typhi is present or absent because it is not a quantitative test. In the event where titers (a small percentage) of a particular antibody are required, a Widal test is advised.
