IgM antibody against Salmonella typhi is measured by the Typhi dot test. These antibodies are generated in response to Salmonella typhi s outer membrane protein (OMP). Within two to three days of infection, this test typically yields findings. IgM antibodies are indicative of a recent infection. This test simply determines whether Salmonella typhi is present or absent because it is not a quantitative test. In the event where titers (a small percentage) of a particular antibody are required, a Widal test is advised.
