Light chains, which are a component of normal antibodies, contain Bence-Jones proteins. Urine typically does not include these proteins. Sometimes, when your body produces too many antibodies, light chains are also produced in greater quantities. The kidneys can filter out Bence-Jones proteins because they are tiny enough to do so. Then, the proteins leak into the urine. This test might be recommended by your doctor to identify the causes of protein in urine.
