Typhidot test is a rapid serological test used to detect the presence of the bacteria Salmonella typhi in the blood. This microorganism causes typhoid fever. The Typhidot Test is a dot enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) that can detect antibodies IgG and IgM in the human body. The body produces these antibodies against the bacterial outer membrane protein (OMP). The test becomes positive within two to three days of Salmonella infection. It indicates the presence of IgG and IgM in the blood. IgM antibody against Salmonella typhi is measured by the Typhi dot test. These antibodies are generated in response to Salmonella typhi's outer membrane protein (OMP). Within two to three days of infection, this test typically yields findings. IgM antibodies are indicative of a recent infection. This test simply determines whether Salmonella typhi is present or absent because it is not a quantitative test. In the event where titers (a small percentage) of a particular antibody are required, a Widal test is advised.
