Quantitative LPS studies are simple to perform. No specific patient preparation is necessary. Quantification of lung perfusion and ventilation can be valuable in the preoperative assessment of high-risk patients before planned lung resection for malignancy, dead-space lung volume reduction in severe COPD, and lung transplantation.
