IgG antineuronal antibodies against the DNER antigens Hu, Ri, Yo, and Tr are found using this test. In order to distinguish between a real paraneoplastic neurological illness (PND) and other inflammatory disorders of the nervous system, antineuronal antibodies are used as markers. Small cell lung cancer and anti-Hu (antineuronal nuclear antibody, type I) are related. In addition to fallopian tube and breast cancer in adults, anti-Ri (antineuronal nuclear antibody, type II) has been linked to neuroblastoma in children. The anti-Purkinje cell cytoplasmic antibody known as Anti-Yo is linked to breast and ovarian cancer. Hodgkin's lymphoma is connected to anti-Tr(DNER). The detection of one or more of these antineuronal antibodies should prompt a concentrated search for the underlying neoplasm and support the clinical diagnosis of PND.
